MAY 2010-A STEP BACK IN TIME:A MINT 1970 BUICK GS SURVIVOR

ma 2010 a imgp1644aA 1970 Buick GS will make you forget that Buick was primarily a brand for mature drivers. The kinds of drivers that feel little need to melt tires when they get behind the wheel. This kind of Buick was definitely not meant for that kind of owner.

Dean Watts’ 1970 Buick GS was a dream come true for him. He always wanted one of the beefed-up Buicks from his younger days. He also wanted a very original version of this street monster.

That made his plan a little complicated.

THE MAY LONG WEEKEND-WHEN STAYING HOME MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE

long weekend imgp5270You have to love the May long weekend. It’s our first real opportunity to shake off the winter dust, unshackle from modern conveniences like central heating and indoor plumbing, and head for the crowded hills armed with a river of booze and a quad.

Despite the obvious appeal of that scenario, I will probably stay comfortably within a tight radius of the city limits all weekend. I’ve done my time as a long weekend warrior and I have the battle scars to prove it.

Other cars were more subtle-every now and then (back in the day) you'd run up against something really odd.

Like a plain Jane Chevy Biscayne or Plymouth Belvedere 2 door sedan that looked like something your great-aunt would drive. Then you'd see the 427 or 426 badge... that's if the guy wasn't really going pure stealth in a blatant street ambush.

Then he'd take the badge off the car. It's not like you could pop the hood and see what was really happening.

Didn't matter-all you ever saw 30 seconds later were tail lights.

Fortunately most cars were rolling ads for power-they had the badges to prove it.
