CAR FORUMS:MUSCLECAROWNERS.COM-SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY
At MSCC we spend a fair amount of time on car forums-call it a job perk, call it research,car forums are a great source of information. They are the single most effective form of mass communication found within the hobby. Car forums represent the global "pulse" of the hobby.
We've been a member of MuscleCarOwners.com for awhile and one of the attractions to this site was the sheer variety found in the member's cars-it's like an online car show because it encompasses so many brands and eras .
Another was the friendliness found on the site.
We asked Sarah-she's the administrator of the site to give us an overview of MuscleCarOwners.com.
"The site was originally created by Otis in June 2006 he sold the site to HotRodHotline.com in 2008
I joined the site in September of 2006 just three months after the site was created and the original owner created it to provide a place for the people who love muscle cars and not just gender specific. He made me an administrator of this site because his TriFive.com site had grown so large he couldn't keep up with it.
This site was basically a spin off from the Trifive site to provide those members a place to show off their other iron that wasn't specifically 55-57 Chevrolet's. I was elected by HotRodHotline.com to remain as administrator to keep the site free of spammers and keep it motoring so to speak".
Sarah has really extended the welcome mat to new members
"I think there is a lot to offer here if people would just sign up and participate. We have the arcade which breaks up boredom, we also have a chat room set up where folks can actually go in there and have a live chat with other members which could be a great advantage to some who have questions on their rides and need immediate answers but there again, if nobody participates its just sitting there. Otis had built a great site and everyday you see many visitors but they don't sign up, and start talking".
She stresses the friendly small town atmosphere of the site and the fact that musclecarowners.com welcomes fans of all automotive stripes.
"All forums need active participants - I like to take pride in knowing it's a friendly site where you don't have to worry about the spammers attacking you, or being berated because you drive a vehicle that others don't think is cool".
To me all of the older iron mid 80's and back are worth keeping and restoring. Save some of that old iron, it doesn't have to be the Yenko, Hemi, Cobra's to be cool. That special ride... is your ride, the one you take pride in be it a Maverick, AMX, the Comet, or that Olds ninety-eight. The car you build and put pride into, the iron that gives you bruises on your knees or elbows because you were on the ground in your driveway working, the smog era ride you busted your knuckles on breaking lose that stuck spark plug... those are the special rides. The ride you give love and attention to-that is what I think this site is about.
The site extends a special welcome to the "Smog era" cars because the pride found in the mid-70s iron is equal to the "classic era". At musclecarowners.com these forgotten rides have a home.
Like most forums and clubs there is always a special invitation to younger generations of car hobbyists. Sarah explained this very well...
"Helping a younger generation build their first Hot Rod. After all, it's the younger generations who will keep the muscle and the old iron on the roads. We won't be here forever, but with love and tender care our "special rides" will be, long after we are"
