A FEW THINGS THAT WERE LEFT BEHIND IN THE TWENTIES
The twenties are an energetic decade in life.
You are young enough to carry the momentum of youth and old enough to enjoy the ride. Plus you heal faster when the road gets bumpy. Eventually everybody finds an exit sign and moves on to a more sensible decade of life.
Here is a brief list of some of the items that I left behind in my twenties:
A full head of hair. The decline began in my twenties, but I still had enough ground cover for camouflage through most of that crucial decade of my life.
The ability to embrace marathon weekends of Friday and Saturday night doubleheaders where recovery from Friday night was completed in plenty of time for Saturday night.
A short list of goals for weekend entertainment that included booze and women. One was guaranteed, while the other was a little more elusive, but typically more fun.
The ability to willingly throw myself under the bus for activities like dancing. I was never any good on a dance floor, I generally hated being on a dance floor, but I was more than willing to serve hard time on a dance floor for the greater good of a less vertical activity later in the evening.
Plucky optimism that an uncoordinated swing around a dance floor was the very key to future romance in and of itself.
Plucky optimism in a general sense.
A search for any place that was crowded, noisy and uncomfortable.
Enough patience to wait for hours in a line-up so I could pay money to get into crowded, noisy and uncomfortable places.
The ability to travel incredibly long distances in a weekend in search of new crowded, noisy and uncomfortable places with long line-ups and a cover charge.
Any insane notion that I would want to do any of the above all over again- with the exception of the full head of hair.
