WE PICK A FEW CLASSIC SONGS FROM THE 20TH CENTURY FOR THE ULTIMATE VALENTINE'S DAY MIX
It’s ten years past the point where we clicked over to a new millennium-we left some classic Valentine’s music behind in the process.
Our loss. That kind of legacy should be celebrated on 21st Century Valentine's Days.
Guys, it’s Valentine’s Day and your effort will be evaluated so- as a public service…
here are a few suggestions for a vintage Valentine’s Day music mix for February 14 2010.You can't beat the classics from the last 100 years.
Trust us.
“As Time Goes By” by Dooley Wilson-for the uninformed, this song came from the early “chick flick” era via a movie that your grandfather was probably dragged to in 1942-“Casablanca”. Basically Humphrey Bogart (Rick) gave up the girl for her own good-you don’t see that much these days.
Just ask Hugh Grant or Drew Barrymore-now the guy always gets the girl, but it happened in this movie.
'As Time goes By' was Rick’s favorite song –his version was sung by a guy named Dooley Wilson. This song was actually an early version of the country (this is where the cowboy rides away) theme. Women love the classics-especially on Valentine’s Day.
This is a classic song-70+ years later.

“Since I Fell For You” by Lenny Welch- Written in 1945 this song actually charted twice-in 1947 and 1963.The Lenny Welch version in 1963 is arguably a better version-he gave it an R&B sound, but the ending will blow you away. No mere human being should be able to hit that kind of climactic note to put a period on a song.
This song in the mix will win you so many points that you'll be able to cash them in next year.

“When I Fall in Love” Nat King Cole-Valentine’s Day was made for singers like Nat King Cole. It was written in the early 50s, Doris Day released it in 1952 but Nat King Cole hit this song out of the ballpark in late 1956.
There was only guy that could take a “relationship” song and turn it into a legend. His name was Nat King Cole.
Guys-this is timeless “candlelight music”. It’s going to work-like you wouldn't believe.

“Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers-Written in 1955, this song became a legend ten years later when the Righteous Brothers put their stamp on it-more specifically, singer Bobby Hatfield. He made this song a legend.
One that very few vocalists should or would attempt.
Gentlemen, there’s a reason that this song was picked for the legendary chick flick “Ghost”-women love this song. Don’t fight the power-put it on your team.

“The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra-This song won an Academy Award for best original song in 1936. You can’t go wrong with the Chairman of the Board Mr. Frank Sinatra. He did this song in 1964 and like every song Frank did-he owned “The Way You Look Tonight”.
Be smart and cash in on Old Blue Eyes' version of this legendary song–he sure would.
“Tupelo Honey” by Van “The Man” Morrison-It’s a toss up with Van Morrison because he had so many great Valentine’s songs. This could easily have been "Flamingos Fly" or any number of songs but Tupelo Honey is one of those rare moments when a song and a singer meld into a perfect musical moment. Not too many vocalists can do Van songs because he writes them for himself-other versions can really suck.
This song is pure Van.Handle it with care and...
It’ll work-women really get Van when he’s on-this song is really on…
“I Can’t Drive 55” by Sammy Hagar-What is this song doing on a Valentine's Day mix? Simple answer-Feb. 14 2010 is also Daytona 500.
You’ll be doing serious penance for this one guys, but it IS the Daytona 500…
