NOVEMBER 2011 FALLEN STARS-NATURAL BEAUTY OR UNNATURAL BLIGHT ON THE LANDSCAPE?
There are two distinct sides on the "old car as a part of the landscape" issue. The detractors call them a blight on the landscape and the pro-old iron guys call them a dwindling resource that reminds us of who we were and where we came from in the 20th Century.
That old 56 Ford could be the very car that you courted your wife back in 1963...or the same car that took you to your first drive in when you were 9.That's when mom put a sleeping bag back there for you and your siblings to duke it out over before you crashed into a sleep that only a kid could have.
These rusty old relics meant something to somebody at some time. Now they're treated like toxic waste instead of garnering the respect that any piece of our past should attain as a signpost of our personal history.
That's a travesty...
