JANUARY 2012: A 1970 MUSTANG MACH 1 GETS TRADED BETWEEN FRIENDS FOR A TOOL BOX

jan12-70machaimgp2901-1Doug Rankin and Curt Barton have been buddies since they were young kids who played with toy cars .

The common bond has always been their car guy affliction because both of them have a huge interest in old iron.

Curt is the current owner of a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 that he got from Doug back when he was 16 years old.

The car was traded to Curt for a tool box and he began an ambitious restoration on the 'Stang armed with the kind of enthusiasm found only in young guys that have not experienced the rigors of a full blown reconstruction.

The car was generously described as a basket case, but that did not slow Curt down at all. In fact, Curt tackled the job by himself and was the sole reason that this Pony did not get shipped to the glue factory.

The net result was a very nice 1970 Mustang that showed what can happen when an enthusiastic young car guy tackles a very big car project and gets it to a high level of restoration.

However, it takes a high level of talent mixed in with that enthusiasm to get the job done right.

One thing is clear...Curt was a talented guy when he restored his high school crush, a 1970 Mustang in very sad shape.
