Detroit Rock City, KISS

radioDetroit Rock City (released July 28 1976) KISS

KISS was more cartoon than man when they exploded on the rock music scene in the early 70's but they had a loyal army of adolescent males who marched to the KISS beat in a huge way. "Detroit Rock City" was allegedly a tribute to a young fan who died behind the wheel on his way to a KISS concert.

The song is driven by a blazing guitar riff which gets out of the starting gate fast and hard in "Detroit Rock City". Motor City needed its own road anthem and KISS gave them one in a big way with this song where the rule book simply got thrown out the window. KISS understood their audience well- young 70's males too young for good decisions and too smart for disco. Add popular 70's era choices in drugs and booze to the mix and you have yourself a genuine road hazard and potential teenage legend in "Detroit Rock City".

All he had to do was drive fast and die young in a KISS car classic.
