What About Now, Lonestar

radioLONESTAR Aug. 12 - Sept. 2 2000 #1 Billboard Hot Country Singles

Country music is a goldmine for driving songs and "What about Now" by Lonestar is a great example of this wealth. What red-blooded car guy wouldn't see the magic in the lines

"The last remaining dinosaur Detroit ever made, Seven hundred dollars was a heck of a deal for 400 horsepower jukebox on wheels." Forget Shakespeare - this speaks to us, the guys that can see the beauty of a powerful American old school V-8.

But it's even more than that.

Before the car most people never ventured past a county line-you faced a life sentence in the 20 mile, no-escape zone of your home. Cars and then interstates changed all that - "Let's take that spin that never ends,  just give me the word, we'll be kickin' up dust". Those are driving words and that 400 horse, 700 dollar Detroit classic ride will get you there in a hurry.

Sick of life in a dusty backwater town? You can always "Chase those dreams down that interstate". It's not a new concept - after all interstates and cars that can handle them have been around for well over half a century and that urge to wander has been around a lot longer but Lonestar really defined what the automotive escape clause is all about in this country classic.
