STAR CAR TUNES: “WILD THING” TROGGS #1 BILLBOARD JULY 1966

my star larger new radio-all the hits 2Welcome back to regular Star Car Tunes-no summer stuff, no Halloween stuff. Just regular stuff you’d hear on your car radio over the last 60 years.

Why not kick it off with the legendary song “Wild Thing” by The Troggs? They were a "nearly" one-hit wonder 60s Brit-rock band. They released only a few songs-all classics.

Wild Thing was one of them.

This was straight ahead 60s rock at it finest-nothing special just a pounding song about a guy wanting to do the “wild thing”. You could only stretch the lyrics so far in the 60s so the wild thing was implied, not stated.

But we all know what this guy wanted and it didn’t have anything to do with gentile courtship

Wild thing, I think you move me, But I wanna know for sure, So come on, hold me tight, You move me”.

He ain’t talking about holding hands folks-this guy wants things to happen-right now. That summed up the mid-60s societal evolution in one classic 2 and a half minute single.

We turned the corner on Pat Boone era music and Pat Boone era morality with songs like this-it was a great change.

Thank you Wild Thing, thank you Troggs.
