HALLOWEEN CAR TUNES “ELECTRIC FUNERAL” BLACK SABBATH RELEASED SEPT. 1970
What would Halloween be without Ozzie and the boys? Black Sabbath was every parent’s worst nightmare back in the early 70s. Just when you hoped your kid was going to be the next valedictorian of the class along came this Satan worshipping gang of social misfits masquerading as music and suddenly you’ve got a strung out loser listening to words like this “…eyes melt into blood, Earth lies in death bed, Clouds cry for the dead, Terrifying rain, ease the burning pain”.
Relax-the words are colorful but misleading .Ozzie was actually just an anti-war hippie.
The song is actually about nuclear holocaust and the Wizard of Oz was a peacenik not a Devil-worshipper. He hammers you over the head with crashing guitar riffs but this monster of rock song was a graphic description of nuclear winter not an invitation to slow dance with Satan.
Turns out the Oz-man had a heart so lyrics like this “Heaven’s golden chorus sings, Hell’s Angels flap their wings, Evil souls fall to Hell, Ever trapped in burning cells”.
See? Ozzie wasn’t trying to lure kids to Hell-he just wanted to send bad guys there. Parents had Black Sabbath all wrong-they were just a loud, anti-war version of Billy Graham.
Rock on man.
