MY STAR CARTUNES: LA WOMAN the Doors Released: April 1971

This Doors classic is arguably one of the greatest driving songs of all time. The pounding beat of the bass guitar and drum combination, along with classic Manzarek keyboard riffs set up a freeway feel to the song.

Actually a freeway at high speed feel to the song with its California roots and the legendary LA freeway where traffic is a circus act and Jimmy Morrison was the ringmaster in LA Woman.

Early 70s LA was a playground for guys like Morrison who lived fast and died young in his pursuit of the most self-destructive rock star title which was shared by Joplin and Hendrix at the time.

The world lost a legend a few months after the release of LA Woman when Jim Morrison succumbed to a lengthy list of bad lifestyle choices in July 1971.

At least he left behind a classic car song and he wasn’t behind the wheel when he checked out.
