SUMMERTUNES:"IN THE SUMMERTIME" MUNGO JERRY MAY 1970
RELEASED MAY 1970
So it's the start of the May weekend season and you're fired up for a great summer.
This begs the question..what exactly were we listening to in 1970 on tinny car speakers pumping out AM tunes?
“In the Summertime” is one of the most famous summer songs in history and it provided 15 minutes of solid fame for one hit wonders Mungo Jerry.
The British pop band had little to offer the musical world after this summer classic but who cares? They gave us a timeless summer tune with a carefree early 70-ish quasi-hippy philosophy about hot weather and even hotter women and that’s all that really matters.
Mungo Jerry was a band who produced a bouncy beat anthem to all that is good about summer and we can all sing along with this choir of good times in the heat of the fairest season.
Sometimes that's all you need...

ROBERT:"In the summertime when all the leafs and trees are green and the red bird sings,I'll be true but you don't want my love. It even sounded better with a reverb (echo chamber) Now that's living!"
CINDY:"Let summer begin!!!! Finally!!!!!!"
BERNIE:"The summer of 1970 is one of my happiest memories and Mungo Jerry takes me back to it every time I hear his anthem to the season".
