jan12-14dave chlnger-1JANUARY 14 STAR OF THE WEEK: AN AVERAGE CAR GUY LIGHTS UP HIS DODGE CHALLENGER

The average car guy defines mscc.

The kind of guy who has to analyze every dollar in his beloved ride.

The kind of guy who wrings the most fun per mile out of cars like this classic Dodge Challenger.

Dave Burden is one of those guys so the Star of the Week is the average car guy and his not so average Challey.

JANUARY 13 STAR OF THE DAY: 1963 MERCURY COMET CONVERTIBLE-ENTRY LEVEL DROP-TOP

jan12-13imgp1720-2Convertible sales peaked in the 1960s. Incomes went up, affluence took precedence over practicality and the first wave of baby boomers established a line of credit.

Even then there were spending limitations, so compact convertibles like this Mercury Comet were a viable alternative to a full sized Ford Galaxie drop-top.

This 63 Comet convertible was at a major show in 2009 and even though it was photographed off the beaten path, it made the Star of the Day spotlight.

JANUARY 12 STAR OF THE DAY: 1974 AMC GREMLIN X-POCKET ROCKET

The 1974 Gremlin X burst on the scene at the same time as the Arab oil embargo-that nasty event cut heavily into V-8 sales of the enigmatic AMC compact.

The Xs that did survive are rare-Levi editions like this one are nearly extinct. This one was at a 2007 Mopar show, the owner was younger than the car and he loved his Gremlin.

He recognized that he had a Star of the Day-mscc just made it official.

JANUARY 11 STAR OF THE DAY: 1974 IHC PICKUP-THE WRITING WAS ON THE WALL

jan12-11my star imgp0495-1International Harvester built light trucks from 1907 to 1975 but in 2012 an IHC truck sighting is like a UFO...many people claim to have seen them but tangible evidence is rare.

This 1974 "Cornbinder" marked the end of the pickup run at IHC-it was one year away from going into the light. The same light that swallowed names like Rambler, Studebaker and Plymouth.

This Star of the Day was seen at a 2007 show-hopefully it's still around.

JANUARY 10 STAR OF THE DAY: 1969 PLYMOUTH SPORT FURY CONVERTIBLE

jan12-10aimgp0529-2

Full sized convertibles from the late 1960s and well into the 70s are some of the most affordable collector cars on the planet. People tend to shy away from the big beasts and that remains a mystery.

Cars like this 1969 Sport Fury make a lot of sense-you get a convertible, a great highway car with easy to find and affordable mechanical parts.

You also get enough room to haul the entire Walton family across the country-with room for Grandpa.

This Plymouth was at a show 2 years ago and it's been a Star of the Day in waiting ever since...

JANUARY 9 STAR OF THE DAY: A CLASSIC FORD ERA FOR HOT RODDERS

jan12-09imgp5405-4

Fords have been the canvas for hot rod builders since Day 1 when somebody figured out that a stripping fenders off a Model T made it go faster. Since then everything from the Model A to the legendary 32 Deuce coupe has ben turned into a "bitchin" ride.

Many builders covet the mid-30s era Ford coupe-the roofline and the stance are second to none for that perfect hot rod.

This Star of the Day was prowling the streets during a major show back in 2009. A picture is worth a thousand words.

JANUARY 8 STAR OF THE DAY: 55 CHEVYS-3 OF A KIND BEATS A FULL HOUSE

jan12-08imgp7740-3

These cars were seen at a show in 2009 and they won the poker game that night because the 3 Chevys drew the crowd in the middle of a full house.

Star of the Day-3 Detroit legends.
