DECEMBER 11 STAR OF THE WEEK: A TURNKEY RIDE, A 50S FLAT BED CHEVY-LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

dec11-7weekDECEMBER 11 STAR OF THE WEEK: A TURNKEY RIDE, A 50S FLAT BED CHEVY-LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

This is a case of "love at first sight". This 60 year old work truck with a 'for sale' sign isn't high on the list of "things I want for Christmas" for non-car guys.

That's their loss.

For car guys, this old brute represents infinite possibilities...from stock to insane big block. In every case, you end up with a massive payload wrapped in a very cool ride.

Easily a Star of the Week...

DECEMBER 10 STAR OF THE DAY:END THE WEEK WITH AN UNDERSTATED RIDEdec11-10bimgp6214-4

Hot rods come in many shades but only two themes- blinding paint and subtle paint. Both concepts work-it really comes down to personal choice.

This Model A was at an early summer 2011 show and it defines a subtle ride.

Subtle...now it's under the mscc spotlight as a Star of the Day.

DECEMBER 9 STAR OF THE DAY: A CLASSIC LIGHTS UP THE TRACK-56 CHEVY POST

dec11-9bimgp6603-3This picture was taken at a June 2011 competition and the thing that really made this car stand out is that it had 50s cool built into a very competitive track machine.

Tri-five Chevy posts are Steve McQueen tough-understated, but carrying an aura that clearly states-"if we come to blows on the street or strip you're going to wake up long after your clothes are out of style".

They're a cool ride-this one was a slam dunk Star of the Day in June and today.

DECEMBER 8 STAR OF THE DAY: COPING WITH THE CHRISTMAS RUSH IN AN OLD 4X4

dec11-8bimgp4930-1This massive old 4x4 is the perfect solution to the insanity of Christmas shopping.

Tired of angling for a parking spot in the middle of endless Yuletide idiots behind the wheel?

This truck just might be the answer because you send a clear message with an old brute like this..."I have nothing to lose, this baby will demolish your Prius in about 2.5 seconds and airbags or not-you're coming out of it with a serious need for a priest".

That's the kind of Christmas ride that makes a Star of the Day.

DECEMBER 7 STAR OF THE DAY: 1952 CHRYSLER NEW YORKER-THE ORIGINAL MOPAR HEMI MUSCLE CAR

dec11-7chrysThis wasn't staged. That new Viper in the background was just there by circumstance-this was taken at a Mopar show last summer.

But it does underscore the performance theme because that big New Yorker was one of the most advanced and powerful cars of its day. In fact, the Cadillac was the only real competitor in the early 50s era of straight sixes.

This big brute was a de facto muscle car in 52 because it was powered by a 331 Hemi-that was the top of the heap for power in 1952.

That's why the Viper behind the New Yorker is here today-Mopar guys like to say Mopar means"mo power".

In 1952 there was very little doubt about that moniker for this Star of the Day...

DECEMBER 6 STAR OF THE DAY: A FIRST GEN OLDSMOBILE TORONADO WITH A LESS THAN ROSY FUTURE

dec11-6pict6782-1Jay Leno is notorious for making monstrous street machines that can outhandle a Z06 Corvette and out accelerate a Funny Car.

One of his most noteworthy rides is a 1966 Toronado with 4 figure horsepower that handles like it's on rails.

He made one mistake-he turned it into a rear wheel drive Toronado and that blew up the concept. Toronados were born with front wheel drive...that made these great looking cars unique.

Here's one with no star like Leno in its future but it's a Star of the Day at MSCC.

DECEMBER 5 2011 STAR OF THE DAY:A BIG 70S MERCURY MARQUIS-THE ORIGINAL HAWAII 5-0 RIDE

dec11-5aimgp1442-1Older MSCC readers will remember the original Steve McGarrett 5-0 Mercury Marquis sedan.

It was the scourge of bad guys on Oahu so every time a lowlife saw a car like this in the rear view mirror he knew it was going to be a long, long day at the office.

McGarret's Merc was black but that wouldn't stop an outlaw from getting nervous if he saw this big sedan in his rear view mirror.

Star of the Day-big Mercury Marquis sedans in the hands of good guys...
