DECEMBER 4 STAR OF THE WEEK: THE MODEL T-IT'S ALWAYS THE MODEL T
Regular readers of MSCC have probably seen a pattern in Star of the Week picks. If it's beat up, hopeless and buried in a farmer's field then it's probably going to be a Star of the Week.
MSCC likes the forlorn and forgotten iron...the more forlorn and forgotten, the better.
The other slam dunk will always be the Model T. They're the granddaddy of affordable iron and they're cool.
So, with all due respect to the classic Stars of the Day this week, this Model T from a June 2011 show took Star of the Week.
The fix was in...yet again.
DECEMBER 3 STAR OF THE DAY:66 PONTIAC GTO-THIS GOAT HAS HORNS
The mid-1960s saw the advent of the term "muscle car". This was a term that instantly appeared on the radar of car guys across the planet.
The GTO is often referred to as the pioneer of muscle cars with its debut in 1964. This particular example is from 1966...the "Goats" just kept getting better and better.
These cars are the pinnacle of mid-60s styling-the tail lights even look great.
That's a good thing because a lot of guys were looking at Pontiac GTO tail lights in 1966 whether they wanted to or not...
Star of the Day-a 66 GTO convertible.
DECEMBER 2 STAR OF THE DAY:THE PERFECT VACATION-A 55 CHEVY NOMAD, A TRAILER AND THE OPEN ROAD
This shot was from July 2009 and it summed up the perfect vacation-a 55 Chevy Nomad seen through the front window of a vintage early 70s Boler trailer.
There are many scenarios for a great road trip and this combination ranks high enough to merit Star of the Day status.
DECEMBER 1 STAR OF THE DAY:THE RAIN, THE PARK AND OTHER THINGS-SOGGY CAR SHOWS
Most old car owners err on the side of caution when it comes to weather. On the other hand, weather doesn't care about old car owners, so occasionally you get a scenario like this.
A park full of old cars in the middle of a downpour.
The day didn't start out like that but this show was in the middle of a mountain range so it snuck up fast.
Star of the Day? Anybody who risks bad weather to show up at car shows...
NOVEMBER 30 STAR OF THE DAY: ROLLIN' WITH THE EARLY 50S PUNK LOOK
This picture was taken 4 years ago in November 2007 but it could have been taken in the 1950s. It stirred up some random thoughts...
A classic early 50s Ford is following a classic early 50s Dodge but neither one of these cars are stock. They're both sitting a little bit lower than factory,no hubcaps and the paint isn't exactly pristine.
There's no "family" in these sedans-these 2 cars are driven by punks and they're probably up to no good.
Welcome to your Star of the Day-cars with that 50s punk attitude in the 21st Century.
NOVEMBER 29 STAR OF THE DAY: THIS CHEVY NOVA IS A CLASSIC GAS,GAS, GASSER
Gassers were at the inception of drag racing and by the 1960s they had become icons. Typical gassers had short wheelbases so cars like Anglias and Austins were a natural fit as platforms for Gassers.
The early 60s produced a new class of domestic car called the compact and the Chevy Nova led the charge.
This tribute to a gasser Nova was at a show in September 2011 and it really captured the spirit of this classic look.
These cars were straight line monsters built to dig in, launch and destroy the competition.
NOVEMBER 28 STAR OF THE DAY:TURNING A CORNER FROM THE 1920S MODEL FORD TO THE 1960S FORD GALAXIE
This picture was taken in early summer 2011 and it really drives home a point. That Model T rounding the corner is symbolic of early 20th Century automotive technology.
Only 40 years separate the T from the 64 and 65 Fords to the right yet it looks like 100 years...
Perspective on this is important because a 1971 Ford clearly looks old in 2011 but it doesn't look out of place in modern traffic and it will keep up on any freeway at 75 miles per hour. Those mid-60s Fords in the picture will too...That Model T won't-unless you plunk a 392 hemi under the hood.
So the Star of the Day is the speedy technological evolution of automotive design from the 1920s to the 1960s.
