NOVEMBER 27 STAR OF THE WEEK:1930S WHITE FIRE TRUCK-HAPPY 99TH GREY CUP

NOVEMBER 27 STAR OF THE WEEK:1930S WHITE FIRE TRUCK-HAPPY 99TH GREY CUP

Some readers may wonder "what exactly is the Grey Cup?" They used to call it the National Drunk but the Grey Cup guys eventually bowed to political correctness so now it's politely called a great national party.

The Grey Cup is the top prize for the Canadian Football League and next year is the 100th Anniversary of this venerable trophy. They're thinking of relaxing the rules on the "National Drunk" nickname next year to celebrate this special event.

The only way to tie in old iron and football was this-the Edmonton Eskimo touchdown  fire truck...

For those of you north of the border have a great Grey Cup Sunday and for those of you in other parts of the world...wow. How do you live without Grey Cup Sunday?

NOVEMBER 26 STAR OF THE DAY:1960 PLYMOUTH FURY-THE END OF THE FIN

1960 was a turning point in many ways at Plymouth. The fin had become yesterday's news as the decade clicked over and this would be the last sighting of a vertically placed fin at Plymouth and Dodge.

Unibody construction debuted that year in Plymouths so it was a true changing of the guard.

These 1960 Furys are a pretty rare sight at most shows but this 52 year old classic is destined to rise again in 2012. That's a bonus to 2012 because sighting a 1960 Fury is a privilege, not a daily experience.

Stars are born not made...

STAR OF THE DAY:A 56 FORD  FAIRLANE TOWN SEDAN WITH SOME INTERESTING CUSTOM STYLING CUES

nov11-25bimgp4976-1Ford guys are going to jump all over this one-a Ford Fairlane that's clearly wearing Canadian trim. That's Meteor Rideau trim running down the side of this ride and they only fitted that stuff on Canuck cars.

Maybe this was some kind of rare factory mistake but a more likely scenario is simple-some guy liked the look,it was an easy fit so he added it to his car.

It really worked. Add a few more 50s styling cues like a Continental kit, dual rear antennas, custom wheel covers and you have a Star of the Day.

NOVEMBER 24 STAR OF THE DAY: 1966 CHEVY BEL AIR WAGON- FACTORY 427 4 SPEED...A WAGON WITH COOL FACTOR

nov11-24imgp1509a-3Baby boomers remember the station wagon with fondness in 2011 but back in the 50s and 60s riding in a wagon was a one-way ticket to nerdhood. This one was at a show 3 years ago.

If Dad drove a cheapy Chevy Bel Air wagon that looked like this in 1966 and you rode in it...that was the automotive equivalent of leprosy at school.

Except for this one-this is a factory 4 speed 427 cubic inch car.

If your Pop dropped you off at school in this baby then file for class presidency because you just ascended the social food chain.

This wagon is ultra-cool and it's an easy pick for Star of the Day.

NOVEMBER 23 STAR OF THE DAY-VOLARE...PLYMOUTH VOLARE...A CAR WORTH SINGING ABOUT

nov11-23imgp7334-2The Plymouth Volare had a tough act to follow when it replaced the beloved Valiant. That was like trying to follow The Beatles with Herman's Hermits.

The result was predictably bad and the Volare became a punchline...when Cheers bartender Sam Malone had to sell his beloved Corvette he ended up with a Volare and merciless abuse from his buddies at the bar.

Including off key versions of the song Volare.

In reality they weren't bad cars-they had rust problems with the upper fenders but Chrysler did a great job with warranty work. They had a softer ride than the Valiant and more room but they never could beat the bad press.

Despite the negatives the Volares lasted a long time. This survivor was spotted in daily use back in 2010...over 30 years after its debut. Unloved, but still reliable-this is MSCC Star of the Day material.

NOVEMBER 22 STAR OF THE DAY: FIRST GEN FIREBIRD-CAMARO'S 1ST COUSIN IN THE SPOTLIGHT

The Pontiac Firebird was a great little car but it had a star for a first cousin-the Chevy Camaro. That was like being John Wayne's cousin.

The 1st Gen Firebird may have a smaller fan club than Camaro but no pony car has a more dedicated following...

This Firebird was at a shootout a few years ago and clearly this Poncho wasn't hiding in the shadow of its famous cousin.

That's why it's in the spotlight today as an MSCC Star of the Day.

NOVEMBER 21 STAR OF THE DAY:A 1978 MUSTANG KING COBRA-LITTLE BROTHER MUSCLED OUT

Mustang purists were divided on the 1974 Mustang II-some felt betrayed while others endorsed the newer, smaller direction of the venerable pony car.

Ford responded to the feedback and this 1978 King Cobra looks like Ford headed in the right direction.

This one has many of the 70s and early 80s styling cues-the T-roof was mandatory in that era.

They managed to add something else to the Mustang II platform...muscle. This car looks like your skinny 15 year old brother after he pumped iron for 2 years-the same basic look but suddenly you start to think about cuffing him in the head.

This King Cobra was at a 2010 show and one thing was obvious-the little snake had enough venom to be an MSCC Star of the Day.
