NOVEMBER 20 STAR OF THE WEEK-THE AMC RAMBLER MARLIN PROJECT CAR
NOVEMBER 20 STAR OF THE WEEK-THE AMC RAMBLER MARLIN PROJECT CAR
Veteran MSCC readers know that these old rides are picked randomly as Stars of the Day.
It could be the car, the shot, the location-even the time of day but these choices are made from a visceral perspective-logic need not apply.
The Star of the Week is a different game-if you're a fan of the original Rocky movie or the words on the Statue of Liberty you'll understand the process- ""Give me your tired, your poor,Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," It's all about the underdog.
There were some exceptional candidates this week for Star of the Week but in the end it came down to this 1967 Rambler Marlin project car-the Rocky Balboa of the car world.
NOVEMBER 19 STAR OF THE DAY:1957 CHEVY NOMAD FOR SALE...READ ON
The sign on the car says "For Sale" and it's a solid 1957 Chevy Nomad that needs a little work.
This looks like a dream scenario because project Nomads for sale are like Bigfoot-talked about but rarely seen.
The rare sale opportunity comes with a condition-you have to rent a decent time machine to see it.
This picture was taken many years ago but this Nomad still a Star of the Day in 2011.
NOVEMBER 18 STAR OF THE DAY: RETRO RIDE-1929 FORD MODEL A
Some cars are born to be hot rods and the Ford Model A is high on the list. This is the look that guys seek when they build a ride.
This car is pretty basic-it really captures the spirit and philosophy behind the hot rod.
This picture was from late summer 2011 and it catapulted this Model A into Star of the Day.
NOVEMBER 17 STAR OF THE DAY: PLYMOUTH DUSTER-AN AFFORDABLE STREET MACHINE WITH A VALIANT HERITAGE
The Plymouth Duster was the 70s answer to the Roadrunner conundrum. That's the question "how do you keep street muscle affordable?"
Chrysler had the answer in the A body Plymouth Valiant. This rugged little econobox was the perfect platform for a lightweight small block street thug.
Add a few styling changes, plunk a 340 into a car that's lighter than a Vette and you have a power to weight ratio that would humble a Super Bird.
Keep the price around 3K and you have a Star of the Day-a Plymouth Duster.
NOVEMBER 16 STAR OF THE DAY:A GAGGLE OF CLASSIC HOT RODS FROM DIFFERENT FLOCKS
The hot rod era really began when guys stripped fenders off Model Ts, raised the compression and hit the roads. The flathead V-8 sealed the deal when these affordable engines started showing up in junkyards.
The 1930s really provided the canvas for hot rod artists and this group really demonstrates the extent of the hobby.
Chrysler, Ford and GM are represented here-this really underscores the philosophy that it doen't matter what you bring...just be sure to "run what you brung".
Star of the Day-the hot rod philosophy.
NOVEMBER 15 STAR OF THE DAY: A RAMBLER MARLIN PROJECT CAR-A FIXER-UPPER FOR THE BOLD AND THE BRAVE
Anybody can take on a 60s Mustang or Camaro but the bravest car guys are the ones who take on a car like this.
Unlike Camaros or Mustangs, you can't open up a Rambler Marlin parts book that lists so many items you can literally build a car from scratch around a VIN.
Nothing is easy in any restoration but in the case of popular pony cars at least the road is paved. With a Rambler Marlin the road is more like the one Lewis and Clark to used cross the United States in 1804.
In the end the popular cars get the ink but at any car show on the planet this Marlin will draw 10 times the crowd.
That's why this AMC Marlin is an MSCC Star of the Day...it draws people in
NOVEMBER 14 STAR OF THE DAY-A RED BARN, A VINTAGE RED FORD TRUCK IN A NORMAN ROCKWELL MOMENT
Norman Rockwell was an artist for the Saturday Evening Post and his biggest claim to fame was his uncanny ability to capture an idyllic moment in his paintings.
He nailed the concept of small town America and gave us some of the best warm and fuzzy moments ever captured in a painting.
This picture was taken in the spring of 2011 and it captures the essence of what Rockwell tried to do...The red barn, the red Ford truck and the pasture make this the the Star of the Day.
