NOVEMBER 13 STAR OF THE WEEK-A NASH WITH A BLEAK FUTURE
NOVEMBER 13 STAR OF THE WEEK-A NASH WITH A BLEAK FUTURE
This was a great week for automotive icons because this week's Stars ranged from a war hero to a mild custom on a 60s classic to a track legend based on NASCAR aerodynamics.
That's a very hefty lineup.
But in the end, this little Nash was the Star of the Week because its future is very limited. This alleged future ranges from a best case scenario as a parts donor to a more likely future as cannon fodder for Mr. Car Crusher.
Nobody saves a Nash in this shape-that's a sad reality, but MSCC sure makes one a Star of the Week.
NOVEMBER 12 STAR OF THE DAY-A BIG BAD DAYTONA...
The 1969 Dodge Daytona was a large presence. The giant rear wing and wild front end stole the show in the late 60s and that wasn't easy.
This was the golden era for muscle cars-an anything goes era so capturing the spotlight in heavy competition like that was a legendary feat.
This Daytona was at a Mopar show last summer and it was literally surrounded by fans all day. This was a rare occasion because the car was virtually alone for a minute and a half.
That was long enough to take this Star of the Day picture.
NOVEMBER 11 STAR OF THE DAY: 1952 M-38 JEEP-A SALUTE TO VETERANS
There can only be one automotive Star of the Day on November 11-the Jeep. This is Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the United States and the little workhorse was the soldier's best friend for decades.
This is a Korean War era 1952 M-38 Jeep and that was one of many conflicts that required the toughness and reliability of a Jeep.
Soldiers swore by the Jeep when they weren't swearing at it and it probably saved more lives in a week during Word War II than every ER in North America does in a year.
For that reason veterans respected this Jeep and we in turn owe our respect to the veterans who gave, and are still giving so much...in past and present conflicts.
They are the true Stars of the Day...
NOVEMBER 10 2011:STAR OF THE DAY-A 1957 FORD ON VACATION
You're never too old to enjoy a vacation and this 1957 Ford is a great example.
Sure it's a working vacation because this 54 year old Ford has to pull a trailer but at least it's getting out in the real world.
This Star of the Day was spotted in the summer of 2010.
NOVEMBER 9 2011:STAR OF THE DAY-A GENERAL MOTORS TRUCK FROM THE 1940S...STILL A WORKING STIFF
This old GMC was spotted in an alley a few weeks ago and at first it simply looked like a good shot of a classic truck.
It wasn't that simple...
This truck was parked in the alley because it's still being used as a daily working vehicle. Yup, this senior citizen aged truck is a working stiff in 2011.
That easily qualifies this venerable GMC as an MSCC Star of the Day.
NOVEMBER 8 2011: STAR OF THE DAY-A FORLORN LOOKING NASH...PROJECT CAR OR PARTS CAR?
Cars like this are extremely enigmatic because they don't provide a road map for their future. On the surface, this Nash is a parts car-a donor of vital pieces for another Nash with a much brighter future.
But "is that all there is?", as Peggy Lee once said so eloquently.
Maybe there's a guy out there with a lot of talent, time and money who really wants to save this beauty so predicting a bleak future may be premature...car guys are completely illogical, stubborn and emotional about old iron.
MSCC is going to start the ball rolling by making this Nash a Star of the Day.
NOVEMBER 7 STAR OF THE DAY: 1965 BUICK RIVIERA-UNDERSTATED STYLE FROM THE LUXURY LINE
1965 was a unique year for automotive styling.
Big names like the Ford Galaxie and Plymouth Fury embraced the vertical headlight look in a big way but the Buick Riviera took the concept to another level.
They hid the headlights.
The Riviera was an understated, sporty luxury coupe. The 1963 version started the look and by 65 it was refined to the highest level. These are classy cars-even in the 21st Century when a guy takes a Riv one step too far in customization mode and enters the fringe of bad taste.
This 65 Riviera was right on the edge because the owner kept the classic look, added a decent paint scheme and kept the understated style intact.'
That's MSCC Star of the Day material....
