SEPTEMBER 24 STAR OF THE WEEK: A 1970 PLYMOUTH GTX-THE NIGHT STALKER

SEPTEMBER 24 STAR OF THE WEEK: A 1970 PLYMOUTH GTX -THE NIGHT STALKER

There's no hard science to choosing an MSCC Star of the Week-it comes down to a 30 second look at every Star of the Day for that particular period.

Then it's simple-they all evoke some kind of spontaneous reaction and one comes out on top.

In this case the scenario is basic.

It's after midnight and you're in for a street brawl...so why not bring a big, bad Mopar to the game?

Your Star of the Week is the best friend you can have on the dark streets-a 1970 Plymouth GTX.

SEPTEMBER 23 STAR OF THE DAY-A RED PONTIAC CONVERTIBLE SAYS ADIOS TO SUMMER

sept11-23imgp6496-1Summer 2011 ended a few hours ago and one way to cling to the memory is this-a convertible, a summer day and a great lake side car picture.

A few things have changed since 2009 when this picture was taken-you can't park where the Pontiac sits because the road was realigned in 2011.

But one thing never changes-vintage convertibles and summer days are natural allies.

Star of the Day-a non-pristine Pontiac on a very pristine summer day...

GOODBYE SUMMER 2011

SEPTEMBER 22 STAR OF THE DAY: A RAT ROD THAT REALLY EMBODIES THE RAT ROD CONCEPT

21st Century rat rods are a tribute to a bygone era when you built a car on the weekend and had it running on Monday. They didn't have to look pretty but they sure had to run.

This car is a classic example of a tribute to what a 50s guy would have built in the 1950s. It's got the vintage hemi that would have been scavenged from a big Chrysler or an Imperial. The wide whites and open wheels would have come from the same donor Mopar.

The body would have been hauled out of a farmer's field-bullet holes and all.

The stacks would have been handmade.

A rolling tribute to a bygone era-an easy MSCC Star of the Day pick.

SEPTEMBER 21 STAR OF THE DAY: A ROW OF WORKING FORDS-30 YEARS AND GOING STRONG

sept11-21line of fords 2 3 hills-2This picture was taken back in 2007 at a car show but these weren't trailer queens. In fact this row of 30 year old Ford trucks were taking a day off from the real world.

They had the weekend off but on Monday every one of these trucks were back on the job site doing what working trucks do best-hauling loads.

That's an amazing feat for any vehicle that's old enough for antique status and it was sure easy to make this line of vintage Fords the Star of the Day.

SEPTEMBER 20 STAR OF THE DAY:1928 ESSEX SUPER SIX SEDAN-AFFORDABLE YET EXTINCT

sept11-20musaimgp2701-3The 1928 Essex was built as a quality sedan with an affordable price-a mid range car that was clearly a step up on a Ford or Chevy but still within range of the average guy.

In business, this is a concept that should work every single time...but these were not ordinary times. This was a full blown economic Depression where only the very strong survive so a few years later the Essex succumbed to weakness in an economic bloodbath.

The Essex went down harder and faster than a drugged gazelle at a lion's stag party.

But a few did survive so this 1928 Essex Super Six Sedan gets a long overdue place in the spotlight as MSCC Star of the Day.

SEPTEMBER 19 STAR OF THE DAY: A BIG BAD 1970 PLYMOUTH GTX STALKS THE NIGHT

Here's a set of headlights that you didn't want to see in your mirror on the mean streets after dark.

They're on a 1970 GTX. The letters GTX never stood for great gas mileage.

They stood for one of the nastiest Mopars ever built.

GTX-Plymouth's answer to the early 70s horsepower race=Star of the Day.

SEPTEMBER 18 STAR OF THE DAY: A BEACH, A GREAT DAY AND A 1964 FORD CONVERTIBLE

sept11-18img_1668-2The concept of the convertible peaked in the 1960s. The concept of summer never disappeared. Cars like this classic 1964 Ford Galaxie convertible effortlessly blended the two concepts.

This was a signature look for the topless car embodied in a full-sized car.

A 1964 Ford 4 door sedan evoked one of 2 thoughts-sensible family car or police car. This Ford convertible evoked only one thought-summer fun.

It was parked by one of the nicest resort lakes on the planet a year ago, in the Summer of 2010-clearly the location fit the ride.
