SEPTEMBER 10 STAR OF THE WEEK: A KID AND A HIGH POWERED 1969 CAMARO

sept11imgp9826-1SEPTEMBER 10 STAR OF THE WEEK: A KID AND A HIGH POWERED 1969 CAMARO

This week was like every week for MSCC Star of the Day-it was populated with some very interesting vintage iron...from Corvairs to giant Imperials to Ramblers to wedding cars.

But in the end it came down to this young kid grabbing the wheel of his grandfather's full race 1969 Camaro.

A picture says a thousand words-this kid is a hard-wired, true blue car guy even though he won't be legally grabbing the wheel of this vintage ride for several years.

Your MSCC Star of the Week.

SEPTEMBER 9 STAR OF THE DAY-1965 RAMBLER CLASSIC...BULLETPROOF SEDAN=DAILY DRIVER

1965 Rambler sedans were reasonably common on the streets-in 1965. They're a lot less visible in 2011 but this Rambler is still functioning as a daily driver in 2011.

In a way, this shouldn't be surprising because these Ramblers were built for demanding customers-the kind of customers who measured every penny in any purchase.

Ramblers met their standards with ease.

Your MSCC Star of the Day...the hardest working 1965 Rambler in show biz.

SEPTEMBER 8 STAR OF THE DAY - 1967 MERCURY METEOR 2 DOOR HARDTOP...THE HOSER FORD

This is another example featuring the Canadian version of a Ford product. Meteors were produced for the Canuck market from 1949-61 and then reintroduced from 1964-76 when the US version disappeared.

This particular Meteor (featured in a past MSCC story) has hoser written all over it because it was born in 1967-Canada's 100th birthday and it hauled a holiday trailer across Canada in 2010 on the Coasters Tour.

Great Star of the Day...eh?

SEPTEMBER 7 STAR OF THE DAY - THE OTHER CAR IN 1927...THE CHEVROLETsept11-7aimgp1411-1

This was a great example of an affordable car built in 1927 that wasn't a Ford Model A. Model As from 1927-31 are relatively common because they literally sold millions of them.

Back then Chevy was door number two in car sales so the low numbers and the extensive use of wood in the body structure combined to exact huge casualties on the 27 Chevrolet over 80+ years.

But this classic example survives to this day and any car that's 84 years old and still looks this good is an automatic MSCC Star of the Day.

SEPTEMBER 6 STAR OF THE DAY- IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE... CAR GUYS ARE BORN THAT WAYsept11imgp9826-2

Normally an MSCC Star of the Day is an old car or truck, but this little guy changed the game.

I spotted him behind the wheel of a classic 69 Camaro wearing the biggest grin a kid could muster. Youthful or not, this was a car guy-no doubt about it.

He had the natural instincts of a car guy because he even had the right grip on the wheel. The fact that he was sitting well under dashboard level was a mere inconvenience because this kid was living an NHRA dream behind the wheel of a high performance Chevy.

He's living proof that car guys are born-not nurtured and he's the MSCC Star of the Day.

SEPTEMBER 5 STAR OF THE DAY-THE CORVAIR...NADER MAY HAVE KILLED THEM BUT THEY'RE STILL COOL

Chevy took a big gamble with the Corvair-a mid-engined, air-cooled, compact car in the middle of the big horsepower, large American iron era.

They were a little ahead of their time in style and definitely ahead in engineering but a guy named Ralph Nader took a special interest in the car. Special interest from a lawyer isn't a good day in anybody's world but for the Corvair, it was fatal.

Mr. Nader penned a book called Unsafe At Any Speed and that liitle paperback started the death spiral for the Corvair.

Too bad it wasn't a star for Nader, but at MSCC the Corvair is easily a Star of the Day.

SEPTEMBER 4 STAR OF THE DAY-THE LONG LOST EARLY 1960S LUXURY BARGE

This picture sums up a long extinct species-the luxury barge.

In 2011 a luxury ride can come in many forms-from a pickup truck to an SUV to a minivan that would fit in the trunk of the Cadillac or Imperial in this picture.

With room for a Smart car...

But none have the presence that these cars had in th early 60s These 2 cars came from an era when luxury car actually meant something.

Park either car beside your neighbor's Ford Falcon and you've won the Alpha male contest without a single punch.

It was like a showdown where one guy brought a BB gun and the other guy brought a Winchester

Those were the days.

Ladies and gentlemen-your Star of the Day...the long lost luxury barge.
