AUGUST 21 STAR OF THE WEEK-1965 MERCURY COMET
AUGUST 21 STAR OF THE WEEK-1965 MERCURY COMET
There's no scientific formula to Star of the Day or Star of the Week. In most cases, this is far from an automotive popularity contest-it's more of a spontaneous reaction to a picture of an old car or truck.
The 1965 Mercury Comet rarely gets mentioned in any lengthy car conversations and that's a shame...they were great looking cars. 65 Comets reflected mid-60s styling at its finest from the roofline to the vertical headlights.
They were clean, lean driving machines-they were truly Star of the Week caliber...

AUGUST 20 STAR OF THE DAY:DELOREAN DMC 12 STAINLESS STEEL DREAM CAR GOES HOLLYWOOD
John DeLorean was considered the father of the Pontiac GTO...a great idea.
In 1981 he started building a new sports car with stainless steel body panels...an innovative idea.
In 1982 he was charged with trafficking in cocaine...a really bad idea.
But he left behind this unique car and quite honestly, would Back to the Future have the same bite if the Time Machine car was an 82 Toyota?
Hollywood cool and only 9000 copies made-a true MSCC Star of the Day.

AUGUST 19 STAR OF THE DAY-A 1963 PLYMOUTH CLARK KENT WITH 4 WHEELS
1963 Plymouths didn't get the same spotlight as the 1963 Vette- even Mopar guys will agree that a utilitarian Belvedere sedan might not pick up women like a brand new Sting Ray would back in the J.F.K. era.
That was on the street... but on the track these MoPars were killers-426 Max Wedge, nasty, brutish machines.
They were Clark Kent on 4 wheels, staid and civilized on the outside with a Superman heart - they could move mountains on the track.
This 63 Plymouth may have simply been a gentle restoration of Dad's old Belvedere but that competition tach on the dash tells you that this Clark Kent might humiliate you in a street brawl.
Star of the Day in a non-threatening package

AUGUST 18 STAR OF THE DAY-A TRIBUTE TO A HI-BOY CLASSIC 50S HOT ROD
This green monster was at a car show a few years ago and, in a blindingly stupid moment of apathy, the story was never pursued.
This ride was a great tribute to a bygone era of 50s hot-rodding when hi-boy and lo-boy meant something.
This is a 50s hi-boy tribute right down to the stance, the checkerboard firewall, the wheelcovers, the wide whites and the distinct lack of fenders.
These were cool cars and if you were a parent back in 1958 the last guy you wanted to date your daughter was a guy who drove a car like this.
An MSCC Star of the Day...

AUGUST 17 STAR OF THE DAY:1967 PONTIAC BEAUMONT-THE CANUCK ANSWER TO THE CHEVELLE
A superficial look at this yellow car tells you it's a Chevelle...adjust those bifocals buddy. This is a Pontiac Beaumont and it was only found North of the border .
The evidence is clear-Canada is more than good beer and hockey riots. There is a rich history of Canadian car models and this great-looking Pontiac is a classic example.
Your Star of the Day from the land of the polite people with the short summer season.

AUGUST 16 STAR OF THE DAY:1965 MERCURY COMET-A FORGOTTEN FIRST COUSIN OF THE MUSTANG
1965 Mercury Comets didn't quite get the press that their cousins the 65 Mustangs received, but to be frank...only a band called the Beatles outgunned the Mustang for PR in the Swinging mid-1960s.
They were cool cars but how do you upstage an icon like the Mustang? It's like being Elvis Presley's younger brother....
No problem. Today the spotlight is on this great looking 65 Comet-the MSCC Star of the Day.

AUGUST 15 STAR OF THE DAY-AN EARLY 70S CAMARO Z28
This picture defines what the old iron is all about-a winding road and a classic ride. This era of Z28 Camaro is relatively rare at even the larger car shows.
That's why this car was an unexpected surprise on a less popular secondary highway and the hot rod behind it was a bonus addition to the scene.
Your Star of the Day...on the road less travelled.

AUGUST 14 STAR OF THE DAY- A LAKE, A SUMMER DAY AND A 1949 PLYMOUTH
A typical Star of the Day picture is taken from outside the vehicle-this makes a lot of sense when you're trying to ID an old ride from the sidelines.
This was taken from inside a 1949 Plymouth 2 door sedan to give a perspective on a beautiful summer day on a road beside a resort and lake. It's a classic ride with a 426 wedge and other little tricks that make hearing the phrase "nice car" a constant throughout any drive. The only question is "what is the Star of the Day" in this picture? The great summer day, the scenery or the classic old Plymouth? They all add up to a great car guy day but...
This is a car magazine so the old Plymouth wins.
