AUGUST 13 STAR OF THE WEEK-1948 CHEVY CONVERTIBLE...ARRIVE IN STYLE
The Star of the Day is probably the most subjective section at MyStarCollectorCar.com. It's one man's opinion about a car or truck in any given situation. In this case the Star is a 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster convertible and the situation is hypothetical.
Basically, the hypothetical situation involves arriving at a car show or any public event that requires a classy, cool ride-things like a wedding, ticker tape parade or Hollywood gala.
You would be hard pressed to arrive in anything cooler or classier than this 63 year old Chevy convertible.

AUGUST 12 STAR OF THE DAY:THE FIRST GENERATION CHARGER-A TRACK STAR WITH NO GLORY
The 1st Gen Charger is often overshadowed by its more glamorous 2nd Gen (68-70) cousins. They are classics but in reality, the real brute on the track was the 66-67 fastback Charger.
These monsters became the stuff of nightmares for the legendary Richard Petty on NASCAR tracks because he was often looking at a Charger in his rear view mirror or through his windshield.
Either way he wasn't happy.
They are still a very rare, but cool car to see on the streets so this one was a natural Star of the Day at MSCC.

AUGUST 11 STAR OF THE DAY: A 1948 CHEVROLET FLEETMASTER CONVERTIBLE-A STAR CAR IN ANY ERA
Because this is the peak of summer, another convertible seemed like a very appropriate choice for Star of the Day. In this case, an incredibly nice 1948 Chevy Fleetmaster made the grade.
1940s movies almost always had the leading man drive a convertible.Maybe it was the sunny California weather, maybe it was the huge bucks that studios coughed up for superstar actors, so visibility was part of the contract.
Either way, you often saw guys like Bob Hope driving cars like this in 1940s movies but that's not the reason this Chevy is Star of the Day.
It would have been a Star in any era...

AUGUST 10 2011 STAR OF THE DAY-1964 BUICK CONVERTIBLE...TOPLESS IN STYLE
Convertibles typically get bad press. Everything from leaky roofs to wind noise to sunburn is cited when convertibles are put on the grill for debate.
This classic 1964 Buick might be the exception to the rule because...it's a Buick. A typical Buick buyer in 1964 was probably a bank manager and like now, they didn't travel well outside a tight comfort zone.
This Buick was the answer because it rode, drove and was built with extra attention to detail so even in convertible form it didn't intimidate soft passengers like an MGB might back in 64.
In 2011 this convertible easily makes Star of the Day based on sheer class.

AUGUST 9 STAR OF THE DAY-A FORD CLUB COMES TO THE RESCUE
This was taken at a car show in June where they weren't experiencing a drought. The day was wet and cold enough to border on winter weather so naturally that had a profound effect on the attendance at the show.
The local Ford club decided to up the numbers and later that day a number of Blue Oval guys showed up to support the show.
That makes them collectively - the Star of the Day.

AUGUST 8 STAR OF THE DAY-1962 CHRYSLER...THE PLUCKED CHICKEN FROM THE EARLY 60S
Legendary, but suddenly unemployed Chrysler designer Virgil Exner called the early 60s fin-less Chrysler products "plucked chickens" after he was put through the goalposts by Mother MoPar in a purge.
Over the years these more sedate Chryslers have gained a devoted following thanks to their legendary reliability. You couldn't kill these base engined 383 Chryslers and the build quality more than made up for the lack of tail feathers.
Hence, Star of the Day status at mscc.
jsAUGUST 7 STAR OF THE DAY:ISETTA-THE FIRST SMART CAR WHEN MPG WAS A MERE SUGGESTION
The Isetta appeared in the mid-1950s and it was an answer to a question that nobody asked in North America. It never enjoyed real success here because in 1955 we liked Cadillacs that could carry three of these things in the trunk.
It made sense in places like Italy where the streets are so narrow you have to back up to change your mind but on the freeways over here an Isetta would be nothing more than a bug splat.Times have changed but one thing remains constant-these little cars are a people magnet and that makes it a Star of the Day
