STAR OF THE WEEK-1946 GMC CAB OVER...A GREAT FATHER-SON PROJECT
STAR OF THE WEEK-1946 GMC CAB OVER...A GREAT FATHER-SON PROJECT
Most car projects have some kind of family connection and this 1946 GMC is no exception. It's an ongoing project but the father-son team and their unique truck are seen at many shows.
That's what makes this truck the Star of the Week-it sums up the philosophy behind the hobby.

JULY 29 STAR OF THE DAY-1958 WILLYS...FATHER AND DAUGHTER TEAM
This Jeep was at a recent show and the one thing that really struck me was how adept the owner was at marital chess games.
Clearly this Jeep isn't high on his wife's list for practicality-2012 Cherokee yes, 1958 Willys-not likely.
His response was brilliant-he bought his daughter a pink Jeep "just like Daddy's" and the game was over. As long as his daughter buys into the Daddy-daughter Jeep partnership Mom has no hand in this game.
This Star of the Day was easy...a forward thinking Jeep owner.

JULY 28 STAR OF THE DAY-1963 FORD GALAXIE FASTBACK 2 DOOR HARDTOP
Back in the day, NASCAR had a huge impact on North American automotive design and it began in earnest with this 1963 Ford.
Ford had been slapped around by Pontiac on the track thanks to the Poncho's more aerodynamic roofline so the Blue Oval countered with this classic 1963 1/2 fastback roofline. The results were immediate both on the track and in the showroom because this classic look took Ford into the 1960s in a big way.
This particular example was at a car show last year- it was a big block 4 speed car so it really was as tough as it looked.
That made it a Star of the Day.

JULY 27 STAR OF THE DAY-57 CHEVY...EVEN IN TWILIGHT THEY HAVE A PRESENCE
The 1957 Chevy is one of the most recognizable cars on the planet. That's why this one was so easy to pick out in the waning hours of a car show.
The lights were on, many participants had gone home before sundown but this iconic form came out of the twilight and nobody had a problem identifying this Star of the Day...or evening.

JULY 26 STAR OF THE DAY-A 1946 GMC CABOVER...A PLAN COMES TOGETHER
This Star of the Day is a follow up to an earlier piece on MSCC. The truck is the end result of a father-son project and like most projects...it's still in the process of completion.
The truck was at a recent show and the most striking feature was obvious-last year's planned truck bed was on this year's version of the truck.
That's when a plan comes together and concept become reality-the truck looked great.
Star of the Day great...

JULY 25 STAR OF THE DAY:CHEVY'S ANSWER TO FORD'S RANCHERO-THE EL CAMINO
In 1957 Ford answered the need for a vehicle that wasn't on most buyer's radar-they built the Ranchero. Kids called them "car-trucks" based on the simple logic that they were trucks based on car platforms. The concept lasted through several decades.
Chevy entered the "car-truck" market in 1959 with the El Camino. Despite the unique nature of these vehicles, they never really lit up the scoreboard with car guys so an SS396 El Camino rarely beats out its car cousin in resale value.
That's too bad because these Chevy El Caminos are some of the coolest rides you'll see at a car show-hence this one's Star of the Day status at MSCC.

JULY 24 STAR OF THE DAY- 1966 TOYOTA 700 PUBLICA...WHEN RARE ISN'T OBVIOUS
There isn't a car guy around who can't pick off a rare car when that rare car is a 71 Hemi Cuda or a 67 L-88 427 Vette.
The big test comes when an offbeat car like this 1966 Toyota 700 gets on the radar. Clearly it's rare because your immediate reaction is the basic "I haven't seen one of those in a long time".
That's probably true if you grew up in North America because these little 700s weren't exactly selling at a Mustang pace in 1966.Plus they survived North American winters worse than a Jamaican at a Fargo North Dakota Polar Bear swim in January.
That makes this little guy extremely rare in 2011-Hemi Cuda rare...
Welcome to Star of the Day status.
