JULY 16 STAR OF THE WEEK -A 1971 VEGA STORY WITH A HEARTBREAKING ENDING
JULY 16 STAR OF THE WEEK -A 1971 VEGA STORY WITH A HEARTBREAKING ENDING
MyStarCollectorCar is all about the back story to a car-that's what makes the narrative compelling for the reader. In this case, a 71 Vega was built into a lean, mean street machine and this little Chevy was a key component of a long and happy relationship with its owner.
Unfortunately, this car didn't go out in a blaze of glory on the track...a car guy ending with honor. Instead it was demolished thanks to a 21st Century John Dillinger who robbed a store and forgot how to drive after a serious drug and alcohol binge. The parked Vega was a classic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
There was no compensation for the owner and his car is history but MSCC Star of the Week is a small gesture for both...

JULY 15 STAR OF THE DAY - A CLASSIC SQUAREBIRD...THE UNLOVED T-BIRD
The 1955-57 Ford Thunderbird is considered an icon of the 1950s... a list that includes Elvis, Marilyn and rock and roll.
Despite the fact that sales for the 58 "Squarebird" exploded, history wasn't kind to the larger 4 seater Thunderbirds and they were treated like a drunk uncle at a dry wedding. That's a shame.
Lately people are picking up on this unloved Bird and now the 58-60 Thunderbird is gaining respect in the world of old iron.
Better late than never because the "Squarebird" Thunderbird was always a classic.
That's why this one is the Star of the Day.

JULY 14 STAR OF THE DAY-1967 PLYMOUTH BELVEDERE...A 21ST CENTURY SILVER BULLET
Back in 1967 there was a mythical Mopar on the streets of Detroit. It was relatively tame looking 67 Plymouth GTX but underneath the hood was a serious ambush waiting to happen.
It was nicknamed the Silver Bullet and it reportedly never lost...thanks to the full support of Chrysler Corporation.
Fast forward to 2011 and this silver Plymouth Belvedere-it was doing what a Silver Bullet does...race.
This Bullet is the Star of the Day simply because you can't ignore one thing- myth and fact come together during the "Summer of Love" in a street monster known as the Silver Bullet.

JULY 13 STAR OF THE DAY- A SUMMER DAY AND A RED 64 MERC CONVERTIBLE
Most of the time convertibles make no sense in some climates where winter dominates the year and summer is peppered with rain clouds.
No roof and a rare glimpse of the sun combined for the perfect day-if you're driving a red 1964 Mercury convertible.
Suddenly going topless makes sense- this Star of the Day is the perfect summer car.

JULY 12 STAR OF THE DAY- A VEGA THAT ENDED UP AS A STATISTIC...GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
MyStarCollectorCar.com is always focused on a look back at an automotive past-typically this is more of a collective concept.
In this case it's a singular look back at a monster Vega. This was the ultimate street machine and its owner had many great years with this car.
Until a drunk and drugged up armed robber drove a stolen SUV right into this hapless little car and literally wiped it off the map on a quiet back street.
The best part of this picture is the crowd of car guys around the Vega at one of its last car shows-that summed up the effect this car had on people.
That's why it's a Star of the Day...gone but not forgotten.

JULY 11 STAR OF THE DAY-A WHITE 1961 IMPALA BUBBLETOP

The Chevrolet Impala name is symbolic of the North American car industry-that's probably why it exists to this day.
In the early 1960s, the roads were jammed with Impalas and many of theme were painted white. This bubbletop Impala signified a shift to more contemporary 60s styling cues-trends that were refined for the next 5 years.
But there's always the starting point and this white Impala 2 door hardtop was the entry into the decade known for major changes-the 1960s.
This Star of the Day was the gateway.
