STAR CAR TUNES-5 FAMOUS MVA SONGS...AFTER THE WRECK
At mystarcollectorcar we like to dabble in every facet of the old car culture and music is a huge part of that world.
The 1960s were a goldmine for the teen tragedy song and most of these involved MVAs (Motor Vehicle Accidents) so it's a natural fit for an old car site.
But what happened after the crash was cleaned up?
Here are five aftermath scenarios from five car crash songs.
Number Five is "Teen Angel" by the legendary Mark Dinning.
In one of the most obvious Homer Simpson "D'oh!" moments the car stalls on the railroad tracks
...I guess a buck's worth of gas wasn't enough even in 1959.
The guy and girl get free but the 16 year old girl goes back to retrieve a trinket and gains instant sainthood when Mr. Choo Choo arrives.
Aftermath-he cashes in on the tragedy and immediately starts dating the prom queen-a much smarter, less impulsive girl.

Number Four is "Tell Laura I love Her" by Ray Peterson. Basic plot-Tommy needs to ante up for wedding ring so he enters a stock car race, crashes and dies.
Aftermath-Laura stars dating an up- and- coming young lawyer within weeks, gets married the same year and pretty much forgets about Tommy-the misguided kid who entered his mom's Chevy Bel Air in the Daytona 500.

Number Three is "Condition Red" by The Goodees. Same old story-girl wants to date a sketchy biker, Mom and Dad hate him but she goes out with him anyhow.
Aftermath-the inevitable motorcycle crash, quick funeral for the dead boyfriend and nearly a year of painful rehab. Best part? Mom and Dad suddenly make sense...

Number Two is "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson and a truckload of other guys including Pearl Jam. Standard teen tragedy... " I didn't see the car etc. etc." = dead girlfriend.
Aftermath-parents of dead girl aren't sympathetic to young driver so they bury the kid and his dad under a crushing lawsuit.

Number One is "Wreck on the Highway" by the legendary country singer Roy Acuff. No teen legends in this song-it's all about blood and wrecked cars.
Aftermath-nothing more to say. Roy nailed it because bad car wrecks are typically nasty bloody affairs not glamorous lead-ins to made-up teen tragedy.
