BONO:IS IT JUST ME OR DOES ANYBODY ELSE THINK HE'S A WANKER?

blowin smoke 2 imgp6998I guess that I should begin with the fact that I’m a big fan of U2. Right up to the point where I have to see this guy Bono on TV doing what he does best- hogging every available limelight and spotlight in sunglasses even worn at night.

Here was a guy who took the song ‘The Future’s so Bright I Got to Wear Shades’ and ran with the philosophy. The light apparently bothers him, so I would recommend less time in the glare of publicity, if that is an issue.

He does a lot of charity work, much of what seems to be browbeating the leaders of countries like Canada and the United States into even greater contributions to third world countries where donations have a filter system that sifts out cash at the top. Bono’s message would have a little extra clout if he was actually a tax-paying resident in either country.

The sheer arrogance of this guy just overwhelms me.

That’s God, He just thinks He’s Bono. And what’s with the name Bono?  I would assume that Ireland did not carry the ‘Sonny and Cher Show’ in the 70s.

Sonny Bono was the marginally talented husband/ex-husband of another one-named singer named Cher. His role was mainly to provide his minimal singing talents to the duo’s early career. After that, he became her whipping boy on a variety show that seemed to be based on a weekly emotional castration program for Sonny.

So Bono was probably not aware of Sonny Bono when he accepted that handle as a nickname when the new Bono was a kid in Ireland. Otherwise Irish Bono may have been known as Eastwood or Sinatra today.

But I have a solution to my problem: I will only listen to studio recorded U2 music on a closed radio or sound system.  I will have to rely upon razor-sharp channel change reflexes and a sense of extreme urgency to avoid anymore of Bono’s magic moments on TV. Because the next time this guy starts preaching the gospel according to Bono is the exact moment when I put a shoe through my television. Another overdose of pretentious Bono behavior is too much for me to handle these days.
