A FEW THINGS WE DIDN'T DO TEN YEARS AGO...THEY DIDN'T EXIST

blowin smoke 2 imgp6998We didn’t facebook ten years ago. Facebook wasn’t even a verb ten years ago. I’m not even sure Facebook was a noun ten years ago, but look at it now.

Facebook has linked people into a huge global social network that extends from a diary style account of daily life for participants. It’s kind of a bulletin board and game board rolled into one, but ten years ago, nobody had even thought the concept of Facebook.

We got by on land phones and emails and written letters in the dark ages.

We didn’t wiki for information ten years ago. Wikipedia was still in the concept stage ten years ago. In other words, we had to ask Jeeves or some other fact-finder website to give us the facts.

Wikipedia doesn’t have the track record of old school actual encyclopedias for accuracy, but they have enough information to get close to the facts. Actually they can cover most subjects that would have no place in real encyclopedias.

Subjects like Paul’s girlfriend’s real name in season three of ‘The Wonder Years’ can be found in Wikipedia. Even Wikipedia would have no real answer why that information has any real value.

But it sure would have settled some bar table trivia arguments over the years.

We sure didn’t tweet ten years ago. Twitter is the new kid on the block in an age where information gets delivered in smaller portions. If we didn’t have ADD before, we sure have it now with a barrage of lightning-fast information delivered by the teaspoon instead of the bowl with Twitter.

Lastly, personally I don’t text even now, but I get the concept. We have developed a world where people are in constant contact with each other via a written message device found on a telephone oral communication device.

The logic escapes me on that one to this day.
