Devo was on the Letterman show the other night. They were pushing a new release that sounded eerily like their most famous hit 'Whip It', and that is not a good thing.
The big question was whether Devo was on Letterman as a comedy act or a band, because these guys were always about a cartoon/punk sound.

The appeal of Hollywood is the fortune and attendant fame associated with celebrity status in Tinseltown. The problem with Hollywood is that its players start to believe in their make-believe world.
They assume god-like status because millions of people are willing to believe that they are gods.
And the worshippers are willing to buy the tabloid magazines and watch the tabloid TV to prove their loyalty to their celebrity gods.
This adds to the confusion because suddenly celebrities become larger than life in the scheme of things. Often they go the Mother Theresa route and become champions for the cause.
Maybe it is their way to do penance for an incredibly fortunate series of events that turns waitresses into movie superstars, or undersized high school geeks into macho action heroes.

The first stage is sobriety. Don't get used to this stage because it won't last. Things are pretty stable and there is no indication that your dignity will be a casualty during the evening. Everything is still ahead of you and your shirt is still tucked into your pants. Plus you are still wearing your pants.

There is something to be learned from every movie. The most obvious lesson is that a lot of brutally bad movies have hijacked your cash over the years.
But you can extract a message every time if you look for it.

Three billion earthlings are expected to watch the World Cup. That is an impressive number of people that choose to watch a game that barely makes a dent in the Canadian and American sports market.
The United States even hosted a World Cup in 1994, but the event came and went just like Woodstock- but with even less people that remember the event. It was not exactly a "where were you when?" moment for most of us colonial refugees from the British Isles.
Why do we care so little about a game that has clearly captured the hearts and minds of everybody else on the planet?
The simple answer is that we don't get it.
