THE LIFE AND DEATH OF A CLASSIC MOPAR-'68 DODGE SUPER BEE

may13-gary pix 010-002The late 1960s and early 70s Mopars are like a hot stock tip because they left the realm of realistic and affordable value seemingly overnight and entered the stratosphere in prices.

These Mopars are beyond the reach of the average guy in 2013 but back in '68 a young guy with a decent job could easily handle the payments.

Gary Anderson was one of those guys.

ETERNAL ENEMIES "HOSTES SEMPITERNOS: THE WIFE VS THE OLD CAR DYNAMIC

may2013-enmy star bruceimgp3305-002There's an old National Geographic TV special called 'Eternal Enemies' that chronicled the relationship between a pride of lions and a pack of hyenas.

This show documented the tumultuous and often fatal struggle for survival between these two natural enemies and it didn't have a Walt Disney ending.

The hyena was taken out in less than 30 seconds in the final showdown between a giant lion and the leader of the hyenas.

Clearly the "wife versus old car" dynamic is less violent.

BORN TO RUN: KEN SCHRADER TALKS ABOUT HIS LONG CAREER ON THE RACE TRACK

may13-schimgp7674-002It is no secret that a father plays a huge role in his son's world and veteran driver Ken Schrader is a great example of this basic rule of life.

Ken followed his dad's race career as a young kid and eventually followed in his father's footsteps when Ken began his own race career in 1971.

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: WHY THESE NEW CAR CHASE MOVIES SUCK

may13-cartimgp0089-001

I took the time to watch the first 'Fast and Furious' movie and that experience cured me forever on these nouveau car chase flicks. There is no way around the stone cold truth that these new CGI car movies are just a two hour video game where the audience doesn't have a control stick.

Otherwise they would steer the cars right into the nearest lane of traffic and go out in a fiery fake cartoon crash and look for a game over sign.

What is even more galling is that these cartoon car chases have replaced the old school car chase movies in the Top Ten car movie list.

MSCC QUESTION OF THE DAY: DO YOU MESS WITH FACTORY EQUIPMENT?

may13-retcar pics 2012 098-002Just to be clear, this is not a question about human anatomy and various ways to enhance that kind of factory equipment.

This question is about the factory equipment in older cars and whether we would change anything to make them better than before in a Six Million Dollar Man kind of way-only for a lot less coin than that guy's mods.
